CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. — A 50-year-old Waldorf man died late Monday night after an armed private security guard shot him during a fight inside an adult entertainment business in the 5300 block of Sheriff Road in Capitol Heights, Prince George’s County police said.

Donald Wayne Hunt was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds shortly before midnight on December 8, 2025.

Prince George’s County Police Department officers responded to the establishment at approximately 11:50 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Hunt suffering from gunshot trauma inside the business.

According to the preliminary investigation by the department’s Homicide Unit, Hunt became involved in a physical altercation with several other patrons. The on-duty security guard, who was armed, responded to the disturbance. During the interaction with the group, the guard fired his weapon, striking Hunt. A second firearm that did not belong to the security guard was recovered at the scene.

Detectives continue to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the shooting. Investigators are gathering additional physical evidence, reviewing any available surveillance footage, and conducting witness interviews. The Homicide Unit is also consulting with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office as the case remains active. No charges have been filed at this time.

The incident occurred in an area of Prince George’s County that includes several late-night businesses along Sheriff Road near the intersection with Southern Avenue. The 5300 block is part of the Capitol Heights corridor that borders Washington, D.C., and is patrolled by the Prince George’s County Police Department’s District III station in Palmer Park.

Prince George’s County law allows properly licensed private security guards to carry firearms while on duty, provided they meet state training and registration requirements through the Maryland State Police. Whether the guard in this case possessed the required Armed Security Guard certification and whether the use of deadly force will be deemed justified remain under review by detectives and prosecutors.

The recovery of a second firearm raises additional questions about whether Hunt or another patron was also armed during the altercation. Police have not disclosed the ownership of that weapon or whether it was discharged.
