CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. — A driver suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday morning when their Hyundai Tucson turned in front of an oncoming pickup truck on Three Notch Road, prompting a major response from St. Mary’s County emergency crews and a continuing investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit.

The two-vehicle collision occurred at 6:42 a.m. on December 10, 2025, at the intersection of Three Notch Road (MD Route 5) and Charlotte Hall School Road. Deputies arriving on scene found the driver of a 2018 gray Hyundai Tucson trapped inside the heavily damaged SUV.

Preliminary findings indicate the Hyundai was traveling north on Three Notch Road and attempted a left turn onto Charlotte Hall School Road directly into the path of a southbound 2015 Ford F-150 XLT pickup truck driven by Maynor Caal Choc, 28, of Lanham. The Ford struck the driver-side of the Hyundai, causing extensive damage.

Firefighters from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department & EMS extricated the trapped driver, who was then flown by Maryland State Police Trooper 7 to a regional trauma center. The patient’s identity and current condition have not been released. The driver of the Ford F-150 was evaluated at the scene but did not require transport.

Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor, according to investigators. Alcohol involvement has not yet been determined pending further testing.

The intersection was closed for approximately three hours while the Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene, documented evidence, and mapped the crash with a drone. Traffic on MD 5 was detoured around the site via Charlotte Hall Road and Mechanicsville Road during the morning commute.

The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash-camera footage to contact Corporal Rachael Owens at 301-475-4200, extension 8108, or email rachael.owens@stmaryscountymd.gov. The investigation remains active.
