PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A woman died early Friday after the car she was driving was struck by a Nissan sedan that fled from a Calvert County sheriff’s deputy, prompting an investigation by the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.

The collision occurred around 12:30 a.m. on December 12, 2025, at the intersection of Stoakley Road and Route 4 in Prince Frederick.

According to a preliminary summary released by the Attorney General’s office, a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputy first observed the Nissan traveling southbound in the 500 block of Route 4, also known as Solomons Island Road. The deputy followed the vehicle and activated emergency lights near Prince Frederick Boulevard and Calvert Hills Road to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver of the Nissan failed to stop. The deputy continued to follow the vehicle without engaging in active pursuit, authorities said. Approximately one mile later, the Nissan entered the intersection of Stoakley Road and Route 4 and collided with a Honda sedan driven by an adult woman traveling northbound. The impact caused a secondary collision with a Kia SUV.

Emergency responders transported the driver of the Honda to CalvertHealth Medical Center in Prince Frederick, where she was pronounced dead. The driver and a passenger in the Kia were also taken to local hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The driver of the Nissan was taken into custody at the scene and transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The involved deputy was wearing an active body-worn camera at the time of the incident.

The Independent Investigations Division, created in 2021 to examine all police-involved fatalities in Maryland, immediately assumed lead investigative responsibility. Investigators from the Maryland State Police Crash Team are assisting with collision reconstruction and evidence collection.

Under state law, the IID is required to release the name of the deceased and any involved officers within two business days of the incident, though extensions are permitted when necessary. Body-worn camera footage is generally made public within 20 business days, with possible delays for witness interviews, technical redaction of civilian identities, or to allow family members private viewing first.

Anyone with information, including cellphone or dash-camera video, is asked to contact the Independent Investigations Division at (410) 576-7070 or IID@oag.state.md.us.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office has placed the involved deputy on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, in accordance with department policy and Maryland law.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
