MECHANICSVILLE, MD – Maryland International Raceway announced the addition of the Mid Atlantic Super Series to its 2026 schedule, with events set for July 11 and 12 at the Budds Creek facility in St. Mary’s County. The series, known for its competitive bracket racing, returns to the track as a key stop in its 10-race calendar.

MIR Owner Royce Miller stated, “We are thrilled to bring the Mid Atlantic Super Series back to Budds Creek for the 2026 season. Rob Keister has built a premier series that offers incredible competition.”

The Mid Atlantic Super Series, led by President Rob Keister for 13 years, provides eight classes mixing 1/8-mile and 1/4-mile formats. Top Dragster and Top Sportsman serve as the quickest categories on the 1/8-mile, delivering high-speed action. The “.90” index classes—Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street—along with the Stock/SS Combo, allow full 1/4-mile runs chasing set indexes. Youth participation stands out with Junior Dragsters and Junior Street, averaging 50 to 60 cars per event. This structure offers varied competition styles, from heads-up to bracket-style racing, appealing to drivers honing skills for NHRA Division 1 events.

Keister, an NHRA Super Gas competitor, emphasizes seat time for skill development in a premier Northeast circuit. The series serves as a stepping stone for racers advancing to higher-level tours.

Maryland International Raceway, located at 27861 Budds Creek Road in Mechanicsville, operates as Southern Maryland’s primary drag racing venue since 1966. Originally St. Mary’s Drag-O-Way, it became Budds Creek Raceway in 1967 before adopting its current name. The facility hosts over 100 events annually, drawing racers and fans from the Mid-Atlantic region. Its low elevation near the Wicomico River contributes to record-setting performances.

The July 11-12 dates position the Mid Atlantic Super Series as the midpoint of its schedule, providing a central venue for competitors. This addition complements MIR’s 2026 calendar, which includes the inaugural NHRA Potomac Nationals May 29-31, marking the track’s first NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series national event during NHRA’s 75th anniversary year. The NHRA addition brings Top Fuel dragsters, Funny Cars, and other pro categories to the region for the first time in decades.

The Mid Atlantic Super Series has grown steadily, expanding classes in recent years to include Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, and juniors alongside traditional .90 index racing. Double-event weekends at some tracks provide extended competition, with additional features like gamblers brackets and social gatherings.
