First-year guard Korey Blair scored a career-high 21 points, but the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s basketball team dropped a 70-61 non-conference decision to Regis College December 30, 2025, at The Student Activities Center at Welch College.

The Seahawks (4-6 overall) concluded their participation in the Music City Classic, a Division III tournament featuring teams from across the country. Regis (7-4) controlled the game from the opening tip, building a halftime lead of 31-20 as St. Mary’s struggled offensively, making only six field goals in the first half on 18.8-percent shooting.

The Seahawks improved in the second half, converting 14-of-30 field goals including six three-pointers to outscore Regis 41-39 in the frame. St. Mary’s opened the period with a 7-2 run, pulling within six points at 18:02 on a jump shot by senior captain Jake Koverman. Regis responded with a 23-9 surge over the next 10 minutes to extend the margin to 56-36, its largest lead. The Seahawks fought back, outscoring the Pride 25-14 in the final stretch to narrow the deficit to nine points by the buzzer.

Regis capitalized on St. Mary’s season-low 10 turnovers, converting them into 11 points. The Pride dominated inside, scoring 40 points in the paint compared to 24 for the Seahawks, and held a 48-43 rebounding advantage.

Blair led St. Mary’s with 21 points in 29 minutes on 7-of-12 shooting, including three three-pointers, while adding four rebounds. Koverman contributed 16 points and seven boards. First-year guard Khairi Hyde added 10 points on three three-pointers, along with three rebounds and two assists. Sophomore James Crimaudo grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go with six points and three assists.

For Regis, Jamir Harvey paced the scoring with 24 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Three Pride players reached double figures.

Team shooting percentages showed St. Mary’s at 32.3 percent from the field (including 36.4 percent from three) and 68.4 percent from the free-throw line. Regis shot 40.6 percent overall, 23.5 percent from deep, and 63.6 percent from the line. The Seahawks committed 10 turnovers to Regis’ eight, with St. Mary’s forcing one more steal.

The Music City Classic, held December 29-30 at Welch College in Gallatin, Tennessee (near Nashville), provides an opportunity for Division III programs to compete in a neutral-site setting during the holiday break. St. Mary’s opened the event December 29 with a loss to SUNY Oswego. The tournament format allows teams to face opponents from different conferences, aiding in non-conference scheduling and player development.

The team’s schedule includes a balance of non-conference road trips and conference play, with the next game set for January 3, 2026, against Eastern Mennonite (3-7) at home in the MPOARC Arena for the Ed Cole Memorial Game, tipping off at 3 p.m.

This matchup against Regis highlights challenges in transition defense and interior scoring that St. Mary’s aims to address as it prepares for United East competition. The Seahawks’ improved second-half shooting demonstrates potential when shots fall, particularly from beyond the arc.
