The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s basketball team earned a 59–51 road victory over Piedmont University on Sunday afternoon at Ragan-Brown Field House in Demorest, Georgia. The Seahawks improved to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in United East Conference play, while Piedmont fell to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

The Seahawks controlled the contest from the opening tip, never trailing throughout the game. They started with an 8–0 run and limited Piedmont to 10 points in the first quarter, taking an 18–10 lead into the second period. St. Mary’s maintained pressure on defense, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on them.
At halftime, the Seahawks held a 33–24 advantage after outscoring the Lions in balanced fashion and generating 11 Piedmont turnovers in the first half. The third quarter saw St. Mary’s extend the margin further, outscoring Piedmont 16–11 to build a 49–32 lead late in the period, marking the game’s largest advantage.
Piedmont mounted a fourth-quarter rally, cutting the deficit to seven points with under two minutes left. The Seahawks responded by going to the free-throw line to close out the win. Olivia Liszt connected on four late free throws to secure the outcome.
Liszt paced the Seahawks with a game-high 14 points, including one three-pointer, five free throws, three assists and four steals in 37 minutes. Tramarie Mobray added 10 points on five field goals in 34 minutes. Keira Mason contributed nine points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in 28 minutes, providing interior strength. Sidney Shaw recorded eight points, eight rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes, with two three-pointers. Samantha Blaylock chipped in seven points and a team-high six assists off the bench.
The Seahawks dominated the boards with a 46–37 rebounding edge and scored 22 points off 22 Piedmont turnovers. St. Mary’s shot 34.8 percent from the field, while Piedmont shot 34.6 percent. The Seahawks made nine steals compared to Piedmont’s 11, with both teams showing similar free-throw percentages around 57-59 percent.
St. Mary’s will return to action on Wednesday, January 7 when they travel to Cairn University for their next United East Conference matchup.
The victory highlights the team’s defensive consistency and ability to handle late-game pressure on the road.
