Leonardtown, Md. — The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) convened a business meeting January 6, 2026, in Leonardtown, where they adopted an ordinance for a road intersection, approved a mass notification system agreement, accepted donations, and granted a property tax credit incentive.

The meeting opened with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by approval of the consent agenda. Commissioners then issued a proclamation recognizing National Mentoring Month.

The main agenda focused on infrastructure. Commissioners approved and adopted an ordinance accepting the current configuration of the Preston Court and Morgan Road intersection. They directed staff to return for formal acceptance of Preston Court into the county road system and establishment of speed limits, contingent on the developer completing painting and stop sign placement.

During County Administrator Time, several actions occurred. Commissioners reviewed future CSMC meeting agendas. They accepted donations from Exelon on behalf of the Department of Emergency Services. The Regroup Mass Notification subscription agreement received approval to support emergency alerts to residents. Commissioners also approved a property tax credit incentive for KIHOMAC Inc. property.

The session included a legislative update from the Office of the County Attorney. The meeting concluded with Commissioner Time for individual remarks.

The Regroup Mass Notification system enhances public safety by enabling rapid communication during emergencies, such as severe weather or other incidents, through multiple channels including text, email, and phone.

The Preston Court and Morgan Road action supports orderly development in the county, ensuring safety features are in place before full road acceptance. Exelon donations bolster the Department of Emergency Services, which manages fire, rescue, and emergency response across the region.

The next CSMC business meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 9 a.m. in the CSMC Meeting Room on the first floor of the Chesapeake Building, 41770 Baldridge Street, Leonardtown.

Commissioners will reconvene at 6:30 p.m. for a Public Forum, allowing residents to address them directly on any topic for up to three minutes each. Participation is available in person or via email to CSMC@stmaryscountymd.gov or mail to Commissioners of St. Mary’s County, PO Box 653, Leonardtown, MD 20650.

The forum promotes respectful dialogue and is broadcast live on St. Mary’s County Government TV Channel 95 and streamed at www.youtube.com/@StMarysCoGov. Accommodations for disabilities or language needs require advance notice to the Public Information Office at (301) 475-4200 ext. 1340.
