ST. MARYS CITY, Md. — St. Marys College of Maryland womens basketball team defeated Cairn University 98-40 in United East Conference play at the Michael P. OBrien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena on Jan. 7, 2026.
The Seahawks improved to 9-5 overall and 3-0 in conference with a wire-to-wire victory, building a 27-3 lead after the first quarter and 52-14 at halftime. St. Marys forced 45 turnovers, converting them into 54 points, while outscoring Cairn 52-12 in the paint and grabbing 20 offensive rebounds for 19 second-chance points.

Five Seahawks scored in double figures. Skylar Woodyard led with 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including 1-of-2 from three-point range and 1-of-1 from the free-throw line, in 15 minutes off the bench. Keira Mason added 16 points, making 2-of-6 field goals and 12-of-13 free throws in 21 minutes. Saffiyah Gibson and Olivia Liszt each scored 14 points, with Gibson going 7-of-10 from the field in 20 minutes and Liszt 6-of-9 in 14 minutes. Halimah Hajhassan contributed 10 points.
The bench supplied 71 points, with all 14 players who entered the game scoring. St. Marys shot 45.8 percent from the field, 21.4 percent from three-point range, and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line, while totaling 38 rebounds and 25 steals against 15 turnovers.
Cairn fell to 1-10 overall and 0-4 in conference, shooting 27.8 percent from the field, 25.0 percent from three, and 81.0 percent from the line with 26 rebounds, six steals, and 45 turnovers. Dezaray Bright led with 14 points, and Kailee Sobrino added eight.
St. Marys held Cairn to 7.7 percent shooting in the first quarter through aggressive defense. The Seahawks maintained control throughout, extending the lead in the second half.
The victory marks continued conference success for St. Marys, which hosts Penn State Abington on Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. in the next United East game.
