A driver was extricated after a serious single-vehicle rollover crash in St. Mary’s County on Friday, January 9, 2026, and airlifted to a trauma center for treatment of serious injuries.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. near the intersection of Point Lookout Road and Tripple E Farm Way in Park Hall, an area in southern St. Mary’s County. Initial 911 reports described a single vehicle that struck a tree and rolled onto its side, with the driver trapped inside.
Units from Bay District Volunteer Fire Department Stations 3 and 9 responded, joined by Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and Second District Volunteer Fire Department. Crews arrived to find the vehicle on its side after impacting both a utility pole and a tree, resulting in heavy entrapment of the driver.
Firefighters initiated a complex extrication using specialized hydraulic tools to access and free the individual. The operation lasted approximately 50 minutes due to the severity of the pinning.
Paramedics from Maryland State Police Aviation Command’s Trooper 7 assisted on the ground, while Trooper 2 landed nearby in a field to facilitate medical transport. After extrication, the patient was handed over to EMS personnel and flown by Trooper 2 to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
The coordinated multi-agency response highlighted the teamwork among local volunteer fire departments and state aviation resources in handling challenging rescue scenarios. The crash involved a Toyota Tundra that struck a utility pole near 18400 Point Lookout Road, in front of Cook’s Liquors and Deli, according to additional reports.
Maryland State Police are investigating the collision. Point Lookout Road was shut down in the area during the response, causing delays for motorists.
The post-incident message from Bay District Volunteer Fire Department included a safety reminder: always wear seatbelts and avoid distractions while driving to prevent serious accidents.
No updates on the driver’s condition were available from approved sources as of January 12, 2026. The crash remains under investigation by Maryland State Police.
