Maryland’s sports wagering operations contributed $15,736,889 to the state in December 2025, part of a total exceeding $78.6 million in state contributions during the first half of Fiscal Year 2026, according to data released by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency.
Sports bettors wagered $636,272,774 during the month and received $555,666,810 in prizes, resulting in a combined hold percentage of 12.7 percent for operators. Retail sportsbooks accounted for $10,209,754 of the handle, while mobile platforms handled $626,063,021. The retail hold was 12.0 percent, and mobile was 12.7 percent.

Retail operators contribute 15 percent of taxable proceeds to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education initiatives. Mobile operators contribute 15 percent to the Blueprint Fund and 5 percent to the state’s General Fund. In December, the Blueprint Fund received $11,849,429 from combined retail and mobile activity, while mobile proceeds added $3,887,460 to the General Fund.
Through the first six months of Fiscal Year 2026, from July through December 2025, total state contributions from sports wagering reached $78,604,721, a substantial increase from $46,576,504 during the same period the previous year.
The Canton Gaming retail sportsbooks in Canton and Pikesville ceased operations on December 14, 2025. As of the end of December, Maryland had 11 active retail sportsbook locations and 12 mobile sportsbooks.
Since the program’s launch in December 2021, sports wagering has contributed $236,654,116 to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, $19,327,337 to the General Fund, and $5,169,831 in expired prizes to the Problem Gambling Fund.
The revenue supports Maryland’s education funding under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, a comprehensive reform plan enacted to improve public schools statewide. In Southern Maryland counties of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s, these funds contribute to local school budgets for teacher salaries, early childhood education, career and technical programs, and school infrastructure improvements as part of the statewide effort to enhance educational outcomes.
