Los Angeles, Calif. — A Charles County father-daughter music duo claimed victory at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on February 1, 2026, securing the Grammy for Best Children’s Music Album with their debut release “Harmony.” Harold “Fyütch” Simmons II and his 8-year-old daughter, Aura V, accepted the award, with Aura V becoming the youngest individual Grammy winner ever at 8 years and 7 months, surpassing the previous record held by Blue Ivy Carter, who won at age 9 in 2021.

The win marks a historic moment for the Southern Maryland region, bringing a Grammy back to the area through a family collaboration rooted in education, empowerment, and positive messaging. The album blends affirmations, family-friendly lyrics, and upbeat rhythms aimed at listeners of all ages, combining hip-hop, spoken word, and feel-good production.

Fyütch, a seasoned musician, educator, and social justice artist from Charles County, has built a career promoting racial equality, empathy, and sustainability through music. He began performing young, founded a high school band, and later created viral classroom songs that merged teaching with artistry. His work has appeared on platforms including MTV, NPR, The Today Show, and Sirius XM Kids Place Live, where his track “Black Women in History” reached No. 1. As a member of the Grammy-nominated 1 Tribe Collective, he has contributed to Grammy-winning projects and led workshops for students and corporations.

The album “Harmony” originated from a single commissioned track by the Wolf Trap Center for the Arts in Virginia, expanding into a full project as father and daughter created songs together. Videos went viral, leading to the release of a complete album featuring collaborations with artists such as Kymberly Stewart, Snooknuk, Alphabet Rockers, Mega Ran, and others, including Fyütch’s father on one track. The project highlights musical family legacy—Fyütch’s grandfather was an Army trumpeter—and emphasizes passing on creativity.

In pre-ceremony interviews with WMAR, Fyütch described the music’s purpose: “Now more than ever, we need positive vibes in our music, in our culture, in our media. I’m happy to provide that. I see the purpose in it—and the beautiful part is that we get to do it together.” He added, “I’m trying to educate, entertain, and empower. I want something the whole family can listen to—something kids can learn from, but adults can also say, ‘Ok, this is jamming.’”

Aura V, a full-time third-grader, showed poise in the spotlight. When asked about winning and setting a record, she said, “I don’t know what to say. I’m speechless.” She expressed excitement about plans, shouting, “I want to go to a steakhouse!” Fyütch noted the joy of experiencing the process through her fresh perspective: “I’m living through her eyes. As adults, we get jaded. But for her, it’s the newness, the excitement—it’s really great to witness.” He praised her stage presence: “She has presence. She knows how to talk to the audience, how to use her hands, how to banter. Humbly, it’s better than a lot of adults who call themselves performers.”

The duo acknowledged the prior record holder, with Fyütch saying, “Shout out to Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Blue Ivy. But we’re coming for that record.” The collaboration has strengthened their bond, blending parenting and career through trips and shared performances.

The 68th Grammy Awards took place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. “Harmony” competed against nominees including “Ageless: 100 Years Young” by Joanie Leeds & Joya, “Buddy’s Magic Tree House” by Mega Ran, “Herstory” by Flor Bromley, and “The Music Of Tori And The Muses” by Tori Amos.

This achievement highlights Southern Maryland’s growing influence in family-oriented music and underscores the power of intergenerational creativity in uplifting communities.
