St. Mary’s County Government’s Department of Aging & Human Services in Leonardtown, Maryland, opened registration for the 2026 Keys to Senior Independence educational series. The free program provides information and expert guidance on financial, mental, and legal topics to help seniors, caregivers, and those nearing retirement maintain autonomy and quality of life.

The series consists of three Thursday evening sessions from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the College of Southern Maryland’s Leonardtown campus in Building C, Room 206. Sessions are scheduled for March 26, April 9, and April 16, 2026. Participants may register for individual sessions or the full series. Those completing all three receive certificates of completion.

Topics and presenters include:

  • Financial Planning on March 26: Jeff Linger, a financial advisor with Edward Jones, leads a discussion on strategies to maximize financial resources during aging.
  • Mindset for Healthy Aging on April 9: Dr. Trish Davis, a gerontologist at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, presents practical approaches to support mental well-being, manage stress, and build resilience amid life transitions.
  • Legal Preparedness on April 16: Representatives from the St. Mary’s County Bar Association explain essential legal instruments, including wills, trusts, advance healthcare directives, and other tools to protect personal wishes and independence.

The program addresses common concerns for aging individuals and their families, such as managing finances, adapting to changes, and securing assets and healthcare preferences. It aims to reduce uncertainty through expert-led education tailored to Southern Maryland residents.
