Greenbelt, Md. — Dominick Mackall, 37, of Lexington Park, Maryland, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in the District of Maryland to federal charges of possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Kelly O. Hayes announced the plea alongside Special Agent in Charge Charles Doerrer of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Sheriff Steven A. Hall of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. The plea occurred on February 5, 2026, according to official announcements from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Court documents and the plea agreement detail that on October 26, 2022, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Mackall’s residence during a five-month narcotics trafficking investigation. Officers took Mackall into custody and recovered multiple loaded firearms, including a ghost gun, along with numerous rounds of ammunition from his bedroom. As a convicted felon, Mackall is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The search also yielded controlled substances in various quantities: 964 fentanyl pills, cocaine, and marijuana. Authorities seized approximately $4,000 in cash and reloadable government-benefit cards in other individuals’ names.

Mackall faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison for the firearms offenses. For the drug trafficking counts, he faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 40 years in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Deborah L. Boardman scheduled sentencing for Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 10 a.m.

This prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice initiative that unites federal, state, and local law enforcement with community partners to curb violent crime and gun violence. The program, strengthened in May 2021, emphasizes building community trust, supporting violence-prevention organizations, prioritizing strategic enforcement, and tracking outcomes to enhance neighborhood safety.

U.S. Attorney Hayes commended the ATF and St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office for their investigative efforts. She also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel Crespo and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Brittany Appleby-Rumon, who are handling the prosecution.

The case stems from collaborative work between federal and local agencies in St. Mary’s County, part of Southern Maryland, where efforts to address fentanyl distribution and illegal firearms possession remain a priority amid regional opioid challenges. The guilty plea resolves charges tied to the 2022 search, underscoring ongoing federal-local partnerships to disrupt drug trafficking networks in the area.
