Maryland’s sports wagering market delivered $10,928,540 in state contributions during January 2026, pushing Fiscal Year 2026 totals past the entire previous fiscal year’s haul with five months left to run.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency reported that combined retail and mobile sports wagering generated the figure for the month, with retail operations contributing $132,011 and mobile platforms adding $10,796,528. This brings the seven-month total (July 2025 through January 2026) to $89,533,261, exceeding the full Fiscal Year 2025 contribution of $88,923,572.

Retail sportsbooks direct 15% of taxable proceeds to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which bolsters public education initiatives across the state. Mobile operators contribute 15% to the Blueprint Fund and an additional 5% to the General Fund, a structure in place since June 2025 that has boosted overall state receipts. For January, the Blueprint Fund received $8,229,408 from combined operations, while the General Fund gained $2,699,132 from mobile activity alone.
Bettors wagered a total handle of $615,845,563 in January, with $539,131,478 returned in prizes. Operators retained a 12.5% hold on the combined action. Retail handle reached $11,133,898 (including $19,840 in deductible promotional wagers), yielding $944,610 in hold (8.5%). Mobile handle dominated at $604,711,664 (including $20,325,780 in promotional wagers), with $75,769,475 held (12.5%).
After deductions for prizes, promotional play, and other adjustments, taxable win stood at $880,075 for retail and $53,982,642 for mobile, for a combined $54,862,717. The 15% retail tax and 20% mobile tax produced the $10,928,540 contribution.
Since sports wagering launched in December 2021, the program has directed $244,883,524 to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund. The General Fund has received $22,026,469 (primarily from the post-June 2025 mobile allocation), and expired prizes have added $5,237,722 to the Problem Gambling Fund.
The strong January performance reflects sustained interest in mobile platforms, which accounted for over 98% of the handle.
