St Marys City, Md. — Junior attackman Gavin McKay scored a career-high five goals to lead St Marys College of Maryland to a 20-5 non-conference victory over SUNY Maritime College on March 7, 2026, at Jamie L Roberts Stadium. The win improved the Seahawks record to 4-2 while dropping the Privateers to 2-2. McKay paced an offense that outshot Maritime 63-24 and dominated ground balls 47-18.

After trading early goals for a 1-1 tie, St Marys reeled off 12 unanswered scores to build a 13-1 lead by midway through the third quarter. Maritime responded with two goals to close the period at 14-3. The Seahawks sealed the outcome with a 6-2 fourth quarter, including a 4-0 closing run fueled by two goals from junior midfielder Luke Maciarello and two assists from first-year attackman Jaxson Zapoli.

St Marys controlled possession with senior Matteo Ciccarello winning 24 of 26 faceoffs and collecting 13 ground balls. The Seahawks forced 23 turnovers from Maritime while committing 17 and went 1-for-6 on extra-man opportunities.

Junior attackman Declan Horton added three goals and one assist for St Marys. Sophomore attackman Owen Wynot notched his third hat trick of the season with three goals. Senior captain Joshua Martel contributed two goals and two assists. Junior defensive midfielder Will Hock set career highs with two goals, one assist and five ground balls. Maciarello scored twice, and senior attackman Liam McNulty had one goal and two assists.

Senior captain Adam Martin led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Senior defenseman Joe Szymanski grabbed seven ground balls. Sophomore goalie Ty Spencer made six saves in the win.

For Maritime, Thomas McCarvil scored two goals. Goalie Cristian Scaffaro recorded 13 saves.

St Marys College, a public honors college in St Marys County, competes in NCAA Division III as part of the United East Conference. The Seahawks started the 2026 season with a 12-7 win over Elizabethtown on Feb 10, a 11-15 loss to Lynchburg on Feb 14, a win over Catholic on March 4 and now this victory. Many players hail from Maryland, including McKay from Urbana, Maciarello from Salisbury, Horton from University Park, Wynot from Kent Island, Martel from Linthicum, Hock from Arlington but Yorktown High, McNulty from Severna Park, Martin from Kent Island, Szymanski from Easton and Zapoli from Prince Frederick.

SUNY Maritime, based in Throggs Neck, N.Y., plays in the Skyline Conference. The Privateers opened 2026 with wins over Coast Guard and Salve Regina before this loss.

The game drew 231 fans to the Southern Maryland campus, highlighting local interest in college athletics. St Marys County supports Division III sports as part of community engagement, with the college contributing to regional economy through events.
