Community Harvest Network, a Southern Maryland nonprofit focused on ending hunger and empowering individuals with learning differences, will receive a $250,000 grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation’s 2026 National Neighborhood Promise program. The award, announced March 4, 2026, in Huntingtown, will fund construction of new classrooms to double enrollment in the organization’s free culinary and workplace readiness programs.

The grant targets infrastructure expansion for hands-on training that delivers industry-recognized certifications and job placement support to young adults and participants with learning disabilities. Community Harvest Network operates across Southern Maryland, combining immediate food assistance through its Food Bank network with long-term self-sufficiency initiatives.

Founded in 2009 as End Hunger in Calvert County, the organization rebranded to Community Harvest Network to reflect its expanded regional mission. It strengthens local feeding programs to ensure reliable access to nutritious food for households in need while running its Culinary and Workplace Readiness Program. This dual approach addresses both short-term relief and pathways to independence for vulnerable community members in Calvert County and beyond.

The National Neighborhood Promise program selects nonprofits in areas where Republic Services customers and employees reside and work. In 2026, 14 organizations across the United States received grants totaling $2.9 million, with expected benefits reaching approximately 1.7 million people through projects in workforce development, vulnerable population resources, and community revitalization.

Community Harvest Network ranks among the recipients for its project in Huntingtown, Maryland. Brian Martin, chief executive officer, expressed appreciation for the support: “As a community-based organization, this support empowers us to continue our mission of feeding people while expanding the infrastructure of our Food Bank and our community programs. We are truly grateful to be selected for this grant, and we deeply appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication in making this possible. On behalf of Community Harvest Network, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Republic Services for awarding us their National Neighborhood Promise Grant.”

Beyond funding, local Republic Services team members will volunteer at the organization’s events, including assistance with setup, communications, and cleanup for Huntingtown’s annual Dragon Boat races scheduled in June.

Michael Davis, general manager at Republic Services, highlighted the partnership: “Republic Services is honored to partner with Community Harvest Network, formally End Hunger in Calvert County, to support their vital mission of addressing food insecurity and strengthening families across Calvert County. By working hand in hand with local leaders, volunteers and families, we are strengthening the fabric of this community and expanding access to essential resources. Together, we are building meaningful partnerships that create lasting impact and help ensure our neighbors have the support they need to thrive.”

The Republic Services Charitable Foundation advances sustainable neighborhoods through volunteerism, donations, and in-kind services, aligning with the company’s 2030 Sustainability Goal to foster strong community partnerships benefiting 45 million people. Community Harvest Network’s efforts fit this focus by promoting resilience in Southern Maryland communities facing food insecurity and barriers to employment.

This grant bolsters workforce development for individuals with learning differences in a region where such targeted programs remain essential for economic inclusion and community strength.
