COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland State Police have arrested a suspect linked to three separate highway shootings that targeted motorists in Prince George’s County overnight from Monday into Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The incidents, which occurred within a few hours, left one person injured and prompted a swift multi-agency response.

Kendrick Lamont Savoy, 44, of Lothian, Maryland, was taken into custody around 2:00 p.m. on March 18, 2026, following a high-risk traffic stop conducted by Prince George’s County Police Department officers in the 2300 block of Oxon Run Drive in Temple Hills. The stop involved a red Dodge Challenger that matched the description of the suspect vehicle provided in the initial lookout.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, Highway Gun Crimes, and Criminal Enforcement Division arrived at the scene and executed an authorized search of the vehicle, recovering two handguns. Savoy was arrested without incident and transported to the Prince George’s County Detention Center.

Authorities believe Savoy is responsible for all three shootings, which investigators have connected through preliminary evidence. The incidents began around 10:35 p.m. on March 16, 2026, when a motorist on MD Route 5 at Allentown Road reported their vehicle struck by gunfire. No injuries occurred in that case.

Minutes later, shortly before 10:50 p.m., a second shooting took place on the ramp from northbound MD Route 5 to the outer loop of I-495/I-95. A man standing on the right shoulder outside a stationary vehicle fired multiple rounds at a passing car. Again, no injuries were reported.

The third incident happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on March 17 on southbound I-495/I-95 at Ardwick Ardmore Road. A driver reported being shot through his vehicle and drove himself to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division processed all three locations. Prince George’s County Police officers assisted at the scenes.

The initial investigation focused on a suspect described as an African American man wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt or top with light-colored pants, driving a red or burgundy sedan, possibly a Dodge Challenger or Charger.

Savoy faces multiple charges, including:

  • 5 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder
  • 5 counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder
  • 5 counts of First-Degree Assault
  • 3 counts of Use of a Firearm in a Violent Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person
  • Possession of a Stolen Firearm

The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the motive and any additional details. No further incidents have been linked to the suspect following the arrest.
