St. Mary’s jumped to a 12-0 lead by the third quarter, scoring 12 unanswered goals. Wilson scored its first goal with 11:44 left in the third period. The Seahawks then added five more goals to close out the contest while Wilson managed one additional score.
Three St. Mary’s players recorded four points each with two goals and two assists: senior captain Katelin Scala of Catonsville, Md., first-year attacker Sarah Fitter of Ellicott City, Md., and junior attacker Grace Maurice of Clinton, Conn. First-year midfielder Brooke Meisner of West Orange, N.J., tallied two goals and one assist for her first career points.
The Seahawks dominated statistically. They outshot Wilson 33-7 and held a 16-11 advantage in ground balls. St. Mary’s controlled the draw with a 17-3 edge. Scala led with six draw controls, and junior midfielder Sanne Elling of Ocean View, Del., added four.
On defense, Scala and senior captain Carsyn Smith of Crownsville, Md., each collected two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior goalie Allie Greeley of Havre de Grace, Md., made four saves in the first half. First-year Lillian Gunder of Perkiomenville, Pa., started the second half and recorded one save.
For Wilson, goalkeeper Kaelynn Goff made five saves in the loss.
The victory marked a strong conference debut for St. Mary’s in the United East, which partners with the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference for women’s lacrosse postseason play.
St. Mary’s next hosts Mary Washington, which entered the week at 5-5 overall, on Tuesday, April 1, 2026, at 4 p.m. at JLR Stadium in St. Mary’s City, Md. The Seahawks then travel to face Cedar Crest College on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 2 p.m. in Allentown, Pa.
The balanced scoring and defensive control highlighted the Seahawks’ ability to dictate play after struggling in recent non-conference games. Scala, Maurice and Fitter provided consistent offensive production, while the draw control advantage limited Wilson’s transition opportunities.
Additional contributors included sophomore Sophia Kent and junior Taylor Wysokinski, each with two goals. The team showed depth with multiple players finding the net and assisting on scores.
Wilson managed limited offensive chances, with the Phoenix recording just seven shots and struggling against St. Mary’s pressure.
The game was played at Kris’s Meadow on the Wilson College campus.
This result gives St. Mary’s early momentum in conference standings as the team looks to build on the performance against tougher upcoming opponents, including a non-conference tilt against a competitive Mary Washington squad.
Southern Maryland fans can follow the Seahawks’ progress through the remainder of the season as they balance league play with remaining non-conference matchups. The April 1 home game offers a chance for local supporters to see the team in action at JLR Stadium.
