Webber was transported from the Albemarle County Detention Center in Virginia by members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Judicial Services Section. He was booked in accordance with standard detention center procedures.
As with all individuals in custody at the Charles County Detention Center, housing and care decisions follow facility policies and applicable laws. Due to Webber’s specific medical and mobility needs, appropriate accommodations will be provided in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, established correctional standards and best practices.
Webber is being held pending a bond review, which will be conducted remotely as is standard procedure for incarcerated individuals at the facility.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office stated that it will not provide additional information regarding booking processes, housing, equipment or techniques beyond what was described. For safety and operational reasons, the detention center does not release details on transport schedules, housing assignments or specific security procedures.
The extradition follows Webber’s arrest in Virginia after a March 22 shooting in La Plata that resulted in the death of Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, of Waldorf. Webber faces charges including first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and use of a firearm in a felony. He waived his extradition hearing last week during a virtual court appearance from Charlottesville, Virginia.
The incident occurred around 10:25 p.m. on March 22 near La Plata Road and Radio Station Road. Witnesses in the back seat of the vehicle reported that an argument broke out between Webber, who was driving, and Wells, who was in the front passenger seat. Authorities said Webber allegedly shot Wells twice in the head before pulling over and asking the other passengers to help remove the victim from the car. The passengers refused, exited the vehicle and flagged down La Plata police officers. Webber then fled with Wells still inside the vehicle.
Officers later located Webber’s vehicle in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was found at a nearby hospital receiving treatment for a medical issue. He was arrested there by Albemarle County police as a fugitive from justice.
Webber, a professional cornhole player and quadruple amputee, had previously shared his story of overcoming significant health challenges as an infant. The case has drawn attention due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the suspect’s medical condition and the nature of the alleged crime in a Southern Maryland community.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting. All individuals in custody are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. No additional details on the bond review or next court appearance were released in the March 31 statement.
Southern Maryland residents in La Plata and surrounding areas have expressed concerns about violent incidents in the region. Local law enforcement reminds the public to report any suspicious activity promptly to help maintain community safety. The detention center’s adherence to ADA requirements ensures that all inmates receive appropriate care regardless of their physical condition.
Detectives with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office have charged a La Plata man in the fatal shooting of another resident following a dispute in a vehicle, authorities announced.
The incident unfolded on March 22 at approximately 10:25 p.m., when La Plata Police Department officers were flagged down by two witnesses near La Plata Road and Radio Station Road in La Plata, Maryland. The witnesses reported being in the back seat of a car driven by Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata,(No booking photo avail.) when Webber shot and killed the front-seat passenger during an argument.
Webber pulled the vehicle over near Radio Station Road and Llano Drive and asked the passengers to assist in removing the victim from the car. The witnesses refused, exited the vehicle, and left the area. Webber then drove away with the victim, identified as Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, of Waldorf, still inside.
Charles County Sheriff’s Office patrol officers assisted in searching possible locations where Webber might have gone. About two hours later, a resident in the 10000 block of Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall called 9-1-1 to report a body in a yard. Responding officers located Wells, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Webber. Authorities later located his vehicle in Charlottesville, Virginia. Webber was found at a nearby hospital receiving treatment for a medical issue. After his release, officers from the Albemarle County Police Department arrested him as a fugitive from justice. He awaits extradition to Charles County, where he faces charges including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and additional related offenses.
