HARWOOD, Md. — A 54-year-old woman from Prince Frederick died Tuesday morning after a three-vehicle crash on Solomons Island Road in southern Anne Arundel County.

The collision happened at approximately 7:20 a.m. on April 7, 2026, on MD Route 2 south of Polling House Road in the Harwood area. Southern District officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department responded and requested the Crash Reconstruction Team to investigate.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 2021 Dodge Challenger driven by a 19-year-old man from West River was traveling northbound when it struck the rear of a 2010 Nissan Xterra. The impact pushed the Nissan into the southbound lane, where it was hit head-on by a 2019 Toyota 4Runner.

The Nissan driver, Regina Ann Hicks, 54, of Prince Frederick, was taken to a hospital and pronounced deceased. The drivers of the Dodge Challenger and Toyota 4Runner suffered minor injuries and were also transported for treatment.

The Crash Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the cause of the crash. No charges have been announced at this time.

The incident occurred on a stretch of MD Route 2 that carries heavy commuter and local traffic between Anne Arundel and Calvert counties. Solomons Island Road serves as a key north-south corridor in Southern Maryland, connecting communities including Harwood, Deale and areas further south toward Prince Frederick and Solomons.

Anne Arundel County police have not released additional details about road conditions, speed or contributing factors pending the ongoing reconstruction investigation. Officials typically examine vehicle damage, skid marks, witness statements and electronic data from the vehicles when available.

This marks the latest serious collision on regional roadways in early 2026. Southern Maryland sees frequent multi-vehicle crashes along Routes 2 and 4 due to increased traffic volume from residential growth and tourism.

Authorities urge drivers to maintain safe following distances and remain alert, especially during morning commute hours when visibility and traffic density can change rapidly.

No further updates on the investigation timeline were provided in the initial police release.
