The Chesapeake Baysox dropped a high-scoring Wednesday night game to the Erie SeaWolves by a final score of 13-8 at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.
The Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles fell to 2-3 on the young 2026 season while the SeaWolves, the Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, improved to 2-3 and evened the six-game series. The contest took place on April 8, 2026.
Chesapeake built a commanding 7-1 lead through the first two innings. In the bottom of the first, the Baysox strung together four consecutive base runners with two outs, highlighted by an RBI double from Anderson De Los Santos and a two-run triple from Doug Hodo for a 3-0 advantage. Erie scored once in the top of the second on a fielder’s choice. The Baysox answered with two first-career Double-A home runs in the bottom half: Griff O’Ferrall hit a two-run shot, and De Los Santos followed with a solo homer, giving him three RBI on the night and extending the lead to 7-1.

De Los Santos reached base a career-high five times, adding a single and drawing two walks. However, the SeaWolves responded with 12 of the final 13 runs. Erie erupted for six runs in the fifth inning against right-handed starter Trace Bright. After Bright walked two batters, Seth Stephenson delivered a three-run home run to end Bright’s outing. Left-hander Eric Torres relieved and hit two batters, allowed a single to load the bases, then surrendered runs on a wild pitch and a groundout. Justice Bigbie’s single tied the game at 7-7.
The SeaWolves took the lead for good in the sixth against right-hander Tyson Neighbors, who took the loss. An infield hit and a hit by pitch set the stage, and catcher Adam Retzbach’s throwing error on a double-steal allowed the go-ahead run. Erie added four more runs in the seventh, including a pair of home runs, and one in the eighth.
Right-hander Colin Fields earned the win with two and two-thirds innings of one-hit, shutout relief. The Baysox managed only one additional run in the seventh on a Fernando Peguero groundout. Retzbach recorded two hits, and Carter Young reached base four times on three walks and a hit.
The teams split the first two games of the series. They continue play Thursday morning at 11:05 a.m. ET at Prince George’s Stadium, with right-hander Evan Yates making his Double-A debut for Chesapeake against left-hander Joe Miller for Erie.
This back-and-forth affair highlighted the offensive potential and bullpen challenges facing both clubs early in the Eastern League Southwest Division season. The Baysox showed strong early production from their lineup but could not contain Erie’s late rally. Fans in Southern Maryland can follow the Baysox throughout the 2026 campaign as they represent the region as the Orioles’ Double-A affiliate.
