ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s lacrosse team delivered a dominant shutout victory on Senior Day, defeating Notre Dame of Maryland University 25-0 in United East Conference action Saturday afternoon at the campus field.
The Seahawks improved to 4-9 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play. Notre Dame of Maryland fell to 0-9 and 0-2 in the United East.
Prior to the contest, the program honored senior captains Gina Jaffurs of Leonardtown, Katelin Scala of Catonsville and Carsyn Smith of Crownsville for their leadership and dedication throughout their collegiate careers.

St. Mary’s College built momentum quickly, racing to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 15-0 by halftime. The Seahawks then added five goals in each of the third and fourth quarters to complete the 25-0 final.
The Seahawks dominated every statistical category. They outshot the Gators 42-2, forced 12 of Notre Dame’s 22 turnovers and held a 20-9 edge in ground balls along with a commanding 23-4 advantage in draw controls.
Offensively, Jaffurs posted career-best numbers with seven points on two goals and five assists. She also recorded three caused turnovers, three ground balls and three draw controls. Scala and first-year attacker Sarah Fitter each contributed three goals and three assists. Fitter set personal bests in assists and total points with six.
Scala added a season-high 10 draw controls. Hope Harrison tallied three goals and one assist with three draw controls. Sanne Elling recorded her fourth hat trick of the season with three goals and two draw controls.
Defensively, junior defender Claire Boudreau led the unit with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. First-year Lillian Gunder started the second half in goal and made one save.
Notre Dame of Maryland goalkeeper Leah Hasberry recorded seven saves in the loss.
The victory marked the second straight win for St. Mary’s College of Maryland and continued a strong conference start for the Southern Maryland-based program. The Seahawks compete in the United East Conference, which includes several institutions from the mid-Atlantic region.
St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a public liberal arts institution located on the historic St. Mary’s River, emphasizes both academic and athletic achievement for its student-athletes from Charles, St. Mary’s and Calvert counties.
The Seahawks now prepare for their toughest test of the season when they travel to face fourth-ranked Salisbury University on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium in Salisbury. Salisbury enters the matchup with a 14-0 record.
Southern Maryland fans have followed the team’s progress this spring, with recent wins providing momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season. The program continues to develop local talent alongside recruits from across the region.
