The Chesapeake Baysox captured their fourth straight victory Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 win over the Erie SeaWolves at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

The Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles improved to 6-3 on the young 2026 Eastern League season. The SeaWolves, the Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, fell to 2-7.

Left-handed starter Sebastian Gongora delivered another strong outing for the Baysox. Erie scored its only run in the first inning on two quick hits. Gongora then shut down the SeaWolves, allowing no additional hits after the second inning. He worked five and two-thirds innings, striking out six while surrendering three hits total. The performance followed his Double-A debut Tuesday in which he struck out a career-high seven.

The Chesapeake bullpen preserved the lead with scoreless relief. Left-hander Eric Torres earned the win, improving to 1-0, with one and one-third innings. Right-handers Jeisson Cabrera and Zane Barnhart each tossed a scoreless frame. Barnhart recorded his first save of the season.

Offense came slowly for the Baysox, who managed only one hit through the first six innings. They tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth without recording a hit, drawing four walks. Adam Retzbach drew the final walk with the bases loaded to force in the tying run.

Chesapeake took the lead in the seventh. Carter Young led off with a single. Two batters later, Ethan Anderson singled to advance Young to third. With two outs, a balk by Erie left-hander Johan Simon allowed Young to score, giving the Baysox a 2-1 edge. Simon took the loss, falling to 0-1.

The Baysox added insurance in the eighth on three consecutive hits. Retzbach scored on a double by Frederick Bencosme. Bencosme then crossed home on a single by Doug Hodo for a 4-1 final.

The win capped a strong week for Chesapeake against Erie. The Baysox took five of six games in the series.

Southern Maryland fans have followed the rebranded Chesapeake Baysox closely since the team’s name change in late 2024. The club continues to play home games at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie while building regional ties across the Chesapeake area, including Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties. Local residents attend games for affordable family entertainment and to support Orioles prospects advancing through the system.

The Baysox pitching staff has been a highlight early in 2026. Multiple arms have delivered quality starts and effective relief, helping the team stay competitive in the Eastern League Southwest Division.

Chesapeake will enjoy an off day Monday before opening a six-game road series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. First pitch for Tuesday’s series opener is scheduled for 6:03 p.m. ET at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The 2026 season remains young, but the Baysox have shown resilience and timely execution. Their 6-3 record positions them well as they continue play through April.

Prince George’s Stadium offers a family-friendly atmosphere with promotions designed to draw fans from Southern Maryland and beyond. Game-day experiences include giveaways, themed nights and opportunities to see future major leaguers in action.
