Leonardtown, Md. — St. Mary’s County Department of Recreation & Parks is casting local youth for its 2026 Summerstock production of Disney’s Frozen: The Broadway Musical, with auditions scheduled for Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Carver Recreation Center in Lexington Park.

The annual community theater program returns to the Great Mills High School auditorium for eight performances across two weekends: July 17-19 and July 24-26, 2026. The main cast is open to participants ages 13-21, with two additional younger female roles available for girls ages 10-12.

Registration is required to audition, with options for in-person or video submission. Interested youth must register through the Recreation & Parks online catalog using the appropriate age-group link and review the audition information packet, completing the form included in the packet.

Main cast registration for ages 13-21 is available at the catalog link designated for that group. Younger cast registration for ages 10-12 uses the separate designated link. The full audition packet and details on sponsorship opportunities for businesses, groups and individuals are posted on the Summerstock webpage at www.stmaryscountymd.gov/Summerstock.

This marks the latest in a long-running Summerstock tradition that gives Southern Maryland young people hands-on experience in musical theater production, including acting, singing and stage presence. Past productions have drawn large audiences and provided valuable performing arts exposure in a region where community programs complement educational opportunities at the College of Southern Maryland and local high schools.

The Department of Recreation & Parks coordinates Summerstock alongside other youth and family programs, including park equipment rentals recently approved by county commissioners for locations such as Snow Hill Park and Chancellors Run Regional Park. These initiatives support broader community engagement and family activities in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties.

Tickets for the 2026 performances will go on sale for advance purchase through the Recreation & Parks online catalog beginning July 1, 2026. Sponsorship packages are available to help offset production costs and are detailed on the Summerstock webpage.

Southern Maryland residents have shown strong support for local theater, with previous Summerstock shows filling auditoriums and highlighting talent from across the tri-county area. The Frozen production continues that momentum, offering roles for a diverse range of voices and abilities while encouraging participation from boys and girls alike.

Aspiring performers are reminded to prepare by reviewing the packet materials, which outline expectations for auditions and the rehearsal process. The program emphasizes skill-building in a supportive environment, aligning with workforce development goals that include soft skills training highlighted at the recent College of Southern Maryland Student Leadership Networking Summit.

For complete details, registration links and the audition packet, visit the official Summerstock page on the St. Mary’s County Government website. The department encourages early registration to secure an audition slot.

This community theater effort provides an accessible entry point for young talent in Southern Maryland while delivering family-friendly entertainment during the summer months. It also creates opportunities for local businesses and organizations to sponsor and support the arts in the region.
