MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Chesapeake Baysox dropped both ends of a Wednesday doubleheader against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats by scores of 20-1 and 10-8. The losses left the Baysox at 6-5 on the young 2026 Eastern League season.

Game 1 unfolded quickly in favor of the hosts. Right-hander Trace Bright took the loss in his start allowing six runs in two and one-third innings. New Hampshire scored once in the second and five more in the third. Jace Bohrofen delivered a two-run homer in the fourth and added another long ball later in the game. The Fisher Cats then erupted for 12 runs in the sixth inning against the Baysox bullpen to seal the 20-1 rout. Jackson Wentworth earned the win pitching the first five innings and limiting Chesapeake to one run.

Anderson De Los Santos and Thomas Sosa provided the only offensive highlights for the Baysox each collecting two hits. De Los Santos drove in the lone run with an RBI single in the fourth.

Game 2 opened with left-hander Micah Ashman making his first career professional start. Ashman struck out four batters over two innings while surrendering two runs on two hits. The Baysox cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when Aron Estrada delivered an RBI groundout that scored Doug Hodo and cut the deficit to 2-1.

Chesapeake seized its first lead of the day with a four-run fifth inning. Estrada started the rally with a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the game. Thomas Sosa followed with a groundout that plated another run. The Baysox drew five walks in the frame including a bases-loaded free pass to Tavain Josenberger and a hit-by-pitch to Carter Young that forced home the fourth run of the inning. The outburst gave Chesapeake a 5-2 advantage.

The lead vanished in the bottom of the fifth. Right-hander Yaqui Rivera worked two clean innings before allowing two base runners. Tyson Neighbors relieved and immediately surrendered a game-tying three-run homer to Sean Keys. In the sixth Neighbors committed two errors on bunts from the Fisher Cats. The second miscue a throwing error at third base allowed the go-ahead run to score. New Hampshire added five runs total in the frame to take a 10-5 lead.

The Baysox showed fight in the seventh. Back-to-back walks opened the inning. Adam Retzbach ripped a double to score one run. Josenberger and Hodo each drove in a run with groundouts. Two more walks and a bunt single loaded the bases with two outs for Sosa. The outfielder drove a deep fly ball to right field but Jace Bohrofen hauled it in on the warning track to end the rally. New Hampshire right-hander Nate Garkow earned the save as the Fisher Cats held on for the 10-8 win.

The Baysox continue their six-game road series against the Fisher Cats on Thursday night with first pitch set for 6:03 p.m. ET at Delta Dental Stadium. Chesapeake will return home for a six-game homestand beginning Tuesday April 21 against the Akron RubberDucks the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians.

As the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles the Chesapeake Baysox continue to deliver exciting baseball and a steady pipeline of talent to the parent club. Fans throughout Southern Maryland have followed the team closely this season with recent coverage highlighting strong pitching performances and key offensive contributions in earlier matchups. Wednesday’s doubleheader marked a challenging night but the club remains positioned to compete in the Eastern League standings.

The Fisher Cats the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays capitalized on early momentum and bullpen opportunities in both games. Bohrofen’s power and timely hitting proved decisive in the opener while New Hampshire’s defense and late-inning production secured the nightcap. The Baysox pitching staff worked through several innings of strong strikeouts and timely outs but the high-scoring environment tested the bullpen depth.

Southern Maryland baseball fans can look forward to the upcoming homestand at Prince George’s Stadium where the Baysox will aim to rebound and build on their 6-5 record. The series against the RubberDucks offers another chance to showcase the club’s mix of young prospects and veteran contributors.
