The St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team rallied late to defeat Wilson College 7-4 on Tuesday afternoon at the Hawk’s Nest in St. Mary’s City.

The Seahawks improved to 8-15 overall and 4-5 in United East Conference play with the non-conference victory on April 15, 2026. St. Mary’s broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the final two innings to pull away from the Phoenix.

St. Mary’s took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning without an extra-base hit. Connor Wilkerson drove in Eli Shafer with an RBI groundout, and Kyle Catanzaro followed with an RBI single.

The Seahawks extended their advantage to 4-0 in the fifth inning. Will Wilson hit an RBI double, and Aaron Wathen added a sacrifice groundout that scored another run.

Wilson fought back in the sixth and seventh innings, drawing 13 walks in the game and capitalizing on timely hits to tie the score at 4-4. Garrett Drish delivered a two-run single up the middle in the seventh.

St. Mary’s responded immediately in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded, DJ Sifford was hit by a pitch to bring home the go-ahead run for a 5-4 lead.

The Seahawks added insurance in the eighth when Rhett Fletcher hit a two-run double down the left-field line, scoring Connor Wilkerson and Corey Brown to make the final score 7-4.

Colin Patterson earned the win in relief, improving to 3-1 after a scoreless seventh inning. Ryan Matthews recorded his first save with a scoreless ninth. Starter Colin Bashor struck out 10 batters over 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run while issuing eight walks.

Offensively, Eli Shafer went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Aaron Wathen collected two hits and an RBI. Rhett Fletcher drove in two runs with his eighth-inning double. Kyle Catanzaro and Will Wilson each added an RBI.

The Seahawks return to United East Conference action this weekend with a doubleheader at Penn State Abington on Saturday, April 18, 2026. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. game in Abington, Pennsylvania.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland, located in historic St. Mary’s City, competes in the United East Conference against teams from Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
