Senior captain Katelin Scala scored four goals to lead the St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s lacrosse team in its regular-season finale on April 18 at Salisbury University.
The Seahawks fell to the No. 4 Sea Gulls 23-8 in a non-conference matchup in Salisbury, Md. St. Mary’s College finished the regular season at 4-10 overall while posting a perfect 3-0 mark in United East Conference play.
Scala, from Catonsville, Md., and a graduate of Mount de Sales Academy, netted four goals and controlled three draws in the loss. First-year attacker Sarah Fitter added two goals and one assist while junior midfielder Hope Harrison contributed one goal, one assist and a team-high five draw controls.

Salisbury improved to 15-0 with the victory. The Sea Gulls built an early 3-0 lead before Scala responded at the 11:13 mark of the first quarter. Scala scored again at 6:03 to pull St. Mary’s within two at 4-2. Salisbury answered with three straight goals to close the period ahead 7-2.
The Seahawks opened the second quarter with two goals to trim the deficit to three. Salisbury responded with three more tallies to lead 10-4 late in the half. Fitter scored in the final 32 seconds to make it 10-5 at halftime.
The hosts dominated the second half, outscoring St. Mary’s 13-3 over the final 30 minutes to secure the 23-8 win.
St. Mary’s edged Salisbury 17-16 in draw controls with Harrison leading the way. Salisbury held advantages in shots 34-15, caused 11 of the Seahawks’ 16 turnovers and won the ground-ball battle 13-3.
Junior goalkeeper Allie Greeley made five saves for the Seahawks.
Scala paced the offense with her four goals. Fitter finished with two goals and an assist. Harrison added one goal and one helper to go with her five draws and one ground ball. Sophia Kent scored one goal for St. Mary’s.
For Salisbury, Miranda Mears scored four goals while Aubrey Harrington recorded three goals and four assists for seven points.
St. Mary’s College now turns its attention to the United East Women’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament. As the four-time defending champions and the top seed in their division, the Seahawks will host No. 4 seed Notre Dame of Maryland University in the divisional semifinals on April 22 at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium in St. Mary’s City, Md. Game time remains to be determined.
The Seahawks defeated Notre Dame of Maryland 25-0 on April 11 during the regular season. The winner of the April 22 semifinal advances to the divisional championship on April 25 at the same venue.
St. Mary’s College has dominated the United East Conference in recent years, capturing four straight titles entering the 2026 tournament. The program continues to build on that success while competing against nationally ranked non-conference opponents such as Salisbury.
Jamie L. Roberts Stadium, located on the St. Mary’s College campus, features a grass athletic field and an artificial turf field with seating for spectators. The venue regularly hosts conference tournament games and provides a strong home advantage for the Seahawks.
Southern Maryland fans can follow the team’s postseason run as the Seahawks aim to extend their conference championship streak. The United East tournament structure includes divisional semifinals and championships before a crossover final with the American Midwest Collegiate Conference on May 2.
The April 18 performance against Salisbury highlighted both the offensive contributions of Scala and the defensive efforts in draw controls despite the final score. St. Mary’s College will look to carry momentum from its undefeated conference regular season into the postseason.
