St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team capped its regular season with a dominant 27-1 victory over University of Pittsburgh-Bradford on April 25 at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium in St. Mary’s City, securing the No. 1 seed in the upcoming United East Conference Tournament.
The Seahawks improved to 10-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play while handing the Panthers an 11-5 record and 1-2 mark in United East action. The blowout victory on Senior Day showcased the program’s depth and set a strong tone heading into postseason play.
Before the game, the team honored 10 seniors for their contributions: Jaydin Acevedo of Gaithersburg, Garrett Brodfuehrer of Lexington Park, Matteo Ciccarello of Crofton, Cooper Dunwoody of Sandy Spring, Nick Machiran of Ellicott City, Joshua Martel of Linthicum, Adam Martin of Kent Island, Liam McNulty of Severna Park, Ryan Roth of Forest, Virginia, and Joe Szymanski of Easton. These athletes provided leadership throughout the season for the Southern Maryland-based program.
Joshua Martel led the offensive charge with a season-best seven points on five goals and two assists, including his 150th career goal. Matteo Ciccarello reached a major milestone with his 500th career ground ball and finished with a game-high 15 ground balls while going 20-for-26 on faceoffs. The Seahawks controlled the game from the opening whistle, building a 16-0 halftime lead with eight goals in each of the first two quarters. They added 11 unanswered goals after Pittsburgh-Bradford scored once in the third period.

St. Mary’s posted commanding statistical advantages across the board. The team outshot the Panthers 87-17, won 22 of 32 faceoffs, and held a 57-20 edge in ground balls. Defensively, the Seahawks forced 14 turnovers and maintained a plus-21 turnover margin. First-year attackman Jack Reiter posted career highs with five points on two goals and three assists. Several other players notched first career goals, including sophomore Jake Polucha and first-years RJ Cusson and Matthew Martel. Goalie Conner Campbell made six saves in relief duty.
The win locked up home-field advantage for the United East Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. St. Mary’s will host No. 4 seed Cairn University in the semifinals on Wednesday, April 29, at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium in St. Mary’s City. Game time remains to be determined.
