Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported infant cardiac arrest Tuesday morning in Prince Frederick and discovered an unresponsive child with apparent assault injuries.

Deputies arrived at the 1600 block of Mint Court around 11:38 a.m. on April 29, 2026. They immediately began life-saving measures on the juvenile victim until emergency medical personnel arrived. The infant was transported first to CalvertHealth Medical Center and then to a regional trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and took over the investigation. As a result of preliminary findings, authorities arrested Branden Pernell Mackall, 35, of Prince Frederick, at the residence.

Mackall was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he faces multiple charges: first-degree assault, first-degree child abuse resulting in severe physical injury, and second-degree child abuse.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. No additional details about the victim’s current condition or the circumstances leading to the incident have been released.

This case highlights the swift response by Calvert County first responders in emergency situations involving children. The sheriff’s office has not indicated whether other individuals are being sought in connection with the case.
