CalvertHealth is recognizing orthopedic surgeon Dr. Uday Patel for his selection as a honoree in the 2026 The Daily Record Healthcare Heroes Awards.

Dr. Patel was named a Physician of the Year honoree. The honor highlights his skill, dedication and commitment to outstanding patient care in the community.

The Daily Record’s annual Healthcare Heroes Awards celebrate individuals and organizations across Maryland who make a meaningful impact on health care quality. Categories include Physician of the Year, Nurse of the Year and advancements in innovation. This year’s Physician of the Year honorees include physicians from major health systems statewide. Dr. Patel joins them from CalvertHealth in Prince Frederick.

Dr. Patel serves as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and leads the CalvertHealth Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. He joined the medical group with more than 20 years of experience. He earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at New England Medical Center.

The center, located in the Calvert Medical Arts Building on the hospital campus at 130 Hospital Road, Suite 102, offers comprehensive services. These include total knee and hip replacement, shoulder surgery, arthroscopic procedures, sports medicine, fracture care, hand surgery and foot and ankle treatment. The facility provides in-office X-rays and works closely with CalvertHealth Outpatient Rehabilitation for seamless physical therapy access.

Patients benefit from Dr. Patel’s focus on advanced techniques and infection prevention. In his 23 years performing joint replacements, he reports no direct post-surgical infections. He uses methods such as double-gloving, antibiotic-impregnated cement, antiseptic wraps and thorough joint irrigation. His patient-centered approach emphasizes meticulous surgical care, personalized pain management and thorough follow-up.

“My goal is to provide meticulous surgical care and comprehensive follow-up to ensure the best outcomes,” Dr. Patel has said. “This is a journey, and I take pride in guiding my patients every step of the way.”

CalvertHealth officials praised Dr. Patel’s contributions. “Dr. Patel was recognized as a Physician of the Year nominee, a testament to his exceptional skill, dedication, and commitment to delivering outstanding care to our patients and community,” the health system stated in its announcement.

The recognition comes as CalvertHealth continues to expand specialty services in Southern Maryland. The hospital has earned national honors, including placement on Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals list and recognition in Forbes’ inaugural Top Hospitals ranking.

CalvertHealth encourages the community to join in congratulating Dr. Patel. “Please join us in congratulating Dr. Patel on this well-deserved recognition,” officials said.

The awards program underscores the vital role local physicians play in improving health outcomes for residents of Calvert County and surrounding areas.
