Leonardtown voters went to the polls Tuesday, May 5, and returned three incumbents to the Town Council for four-year terms running through 2030.

The election filled three seats on the five-member council that helps govern the historic county seat of St. Mary’s County. Official results certified by the Election Judge showed Mary Maday Slade receiving the most votes with 244, followed by Christy Sterling Hollander with 202 and Heather M. Earhart with 188. Rodney Flowers received 128 votes and Ken Held received 93.

A total of 305 ballots were cast — 280 in person and 25 absentee.

Flowers, who campaigned by knocking on more than 1,400 doors, issued a gracious concession statement on Facebook. “To the 128 of you who cast your ballot for our vision—thank you,” he wrote. “The campaign ends tonight, but my commitment to Leonardtown does not. We will continue to advocate for Structure, Safety, and Sovereignty.”

Hollander expressed gratitude for another term. “Incredibly honored to get to serve Leonardtown for another 4 years,” she posted. “Thank you to everyone who voted and congratulations to Mary Maday Slade, Heather Marin Earhart, Rodney Flowers, and Ken Held for running great campaigns. Now the work continues!”

Earhart highlighted her nearly 20 years of public service in the town. “Public service isn’t about ‘sitting behind a desk.’ It’s about showing up—every day—for the community you love,” she wrote. “It’s volunteering with our business association, standing on hot pavement directing traffic, missing family dinners to review budgets line by line, and using your PTO to serve as a voice for residents on committees that shape our future.”

Leonardtown, with its preserved downtown, waterfront access and small-town charm, serves as the administrative heart of St. Mary’s County. The council works alongside the mayor to manage local services, historic preservation and economic development in a community that balances growth with its colonial heritage. Turnout was typical for a municipal election in the town of roughly 4,000 residents.

The results were announced live on the Town of Leonardtown Facebook page by Election Judge Katie Werner.
