Charles County Public Schools is now accepting applications for the new 2026–2027 Virtual Middle School Program.

The program is designed for families with students entering grades 6 through 8 who seek a flexible, standards-aligned virtual learning environment taught by CCPS teachers. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 29.

Families are invited to attend a virtual informational session on Thursday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. Future in-person registration dates will be shared at the end of the current school year. Space is limited to the first 50 students per grade level.

The Virtual Middle School Program provides core grade-level coursework in all subject areas following the Middle School Program of Studies. Accelerated math options, including Algebra I for eligible eighth-grade students, are available based on CCPS acceleration criteria. Electives include Spanish I and Spanish II.

Classes meet Monday through Friday from 7:50 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. Students take seven classes per day with a scheduled lunch break. Students must be enrolled in CCPS to participate. Those with an IEP, 504 plan or English learner services will be conditionally accepted pending a school-based meeting to determine eligibility. Grade and course placements follow Superintendent Rule 5131.3.

Reliable home internet access is required. CCPS will issue a laptop to each accepted student, and students must use the school-issued device for classes and assignments.

The program expands CCPS’s successful virtual learning options, which already serve high school students through the Virtual Academy at the Robert D. Stethem Educational Center. It gives families greater flexibility while maintaining the full CCPS curriculum, teacher support and connection to the district’s 28,000 students across 40 schools.

Questions or concerns can be addressed to Melissa Miesowitz, CCPS director of secondary education, at 301-932-6610 or by email at mmiesowitz@ccboe.com.
