Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Nanjemoy man on two active warrants and charged his passenger with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine following a traffic stop in Bryans Road on April 28.

At approximately 8:46 p.m., officers observed Labrons Edward Butler, 50, driving in the area of Bryans Road. Knowing he had two active arrest warrants, they initiated a traffic stop and took him into custody.

A passenger in the vehicle, Lewis Andrew Washington, 64, was found in possession of 26 individual packages containing suspected crack cocaine, valued at approximately $2,000. Deputies also recovered a replica handgun inside the car.

Washington was transported to the Charles County Detention Center and charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Butler was charged with two counts of failure to appear in court. Both men are being held without bond.

Bryans Road is a busy corridor in northern Charles County that connects residential communities with U.S. Route 301 and serves as a gateway to Waldorf and other growing areas. The sheriff’s office routinely conducts traffic enforcement in the region to address outstanding warrants and disrupt illegal drug activity.

Charles County has seen increased focus on combating the opioid and cocaine epidemic through proactive policing and partnerships with state and federal agencies. The recovery of 26 packages of suspected crack cocaine highlights ongoing efforts to prevent drug distribution in local communities.

The Charles County Detention Center, located in La Plata, houses individuals awaiting trial or serving short sentences. Both suspects remain in custody pending further court proceedings.
