Young artists in St. Mary’s County are invited to explore creativity this summer through the St. Clement’s Island Museum’s “Art Kids” class series.
The museum will offer hands-on sessions where participants experiment with drawing, painting, simple weaving, sculpting and other creative projects. Students will also reflect on how creating art can positively impact society for future generations.
The program is designed to encourage young artists to try new materials, express their creativity and enjoy the process of making art in a welcoming and supportive environment. At the end of each session, participants will take home their own unique piece of artwork to share with family and friends.

Preregistration is required. The cost is $7 per child, ages 7–14 only. All materials are provided, but participants are asked to bring a light snack. Parents are encouraged to sign up soon because slots fill quickly.
Sessions will be held August 24–27, 2026, and September 14–17, 2026.
St. Clement’s Island Museum, located in southern St. Mary’s County, is a popular destination for families interested in history, nature and community programs. The museum sits near the site of Maryland’s first colonial landing and offers a variety of educational and cultural experiences throughout the year. The “Art Kids” series adds a creative outlet for local children during the summer months when school is out.
The classes provide a chance for children to develop artistic skills while learning about the role of art in building stronger communities. In a region rich with history and natural beauty, the program helps young residents connect creativity with the world around them.
