Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department members were honored for their dedication and exemplary service at the Calvert County Fire, Rescue, and EMS Association’s annual Installation of Officers and Awards Dinner on April 10, 2026.
The event, held at the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, brought together departments from across Calvert County to celebrate the achievements of volunteer firefighters who serve rural and waterfront communities in one of Maryland’s fastest-growing counties.
Two Prince Frederick members were inducted into the Calvert County Hall of Fame: Past Chief Joseph Della-Camera and Herman “Brad” Rawlings. The Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made significant, long-term contributions to the fire and rescue service in Calvert County.
In addition, the department received the prestigious J.W. Freesland Award for extraordinary performance during a significant incident earlier this year involving a fully loaded propane truck. The following members were recognized for their professionalism and decisive actions: Driver Roger Rearden, Officer Sgt. Kady Boggs, and Firefighters Carter Canchola, Cody Davenport, and Michael Delehanty.
The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department serves the growing communities of Prince Frederick, Port Republic, and surrounding areas in Calvert County. Volunteer companies like Prince Frederick VFD are the backbone of emergency response in Southern Maryland, where they handle everything from structure fires and vehicle crashes to medical calls and water rescues along the Chesapeake Bay shoreline.
Calvert County’s volunteer fire and rescue system relies on the commitment of hundreds of men and women who balance full-time jobs and family responsibilities with the demands of emergency service. The awards dinner provides an important opportunity to recognize their service and the critical partnerships between departments that ensure rapid response across the county.
The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department extends its congratulations to all honorees and expresses gratitude for the continued dedication of its volunteers in service to the community.
