A Calvert County man has claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize and described the win as life-changing. The North Beach resident said the money arrived at the right time and reinforced his decision to focus on the Lottery’s major jackpot games.

The winner, a legal professional, claimed his prize on May 15 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He said he plays Powerball, Mega Millions, and Multi-Match with every drawing and occasionally plays daily games when certain numbers stand out to him.

When asked how he selects his numbers, he explained that he tracks winning numbers from previous drawings to help guide his choices. While lottery officials note that past results do not influence future drawings, the winner remains confident in his method following his latest win.

The man said he initially doubted the Maryland Lottery app when it showed he had won after scanning his ticket. He checked the ticket multiple times before visiting a retailer to confirm the result.

“I looked at it again and again, thinking, ‘This can’t be right.’ There were more zeroes than I’m used to seeing,” he said.

The winning ticket was sold at the Fastop store at 8834 Chesapeake Avenue in North Beach. In Powerball, a $50,000 prize is awarded for matching four of the five white balls plus the red Powerball.

Prizes of this size must be claimed at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore by appointment. The winner said he eventually made the trip to Baltimore after confirming the win.

He characterized the prize as a meaningful windfall that came at an opportune moment. While he occasionally plays smaller daily games, he said his primary focus remains on Powerball and other large jackpot offerings.

Lottery winners in Maryland have 182 days from the drawing date to claim prizes. The May 6 drawing produced multiple $50,000 winners across the state, including this one in northern Calvert County.
