PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A North Beach man admitted to repeatedly sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl and was sentenced to 30 years in prison last week.
Timothy Lee Townsend, 41, of North Beach, received the sentence on May 15 in Calvert County Circuit Court. Judge Mark Chandlee suspended 10 years and ordered Townsend to register as a Tier 3 sex offender. He will also serve five years of supervised probation upon release.
Details of the Abuse

In October 2025, Calvert County sheriff’s deputies received a report from the 10-year-old victim. She was interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center in Prince Frederick. The girl told investigators that Townsend had repeatedly come into her bedroom and rubbed her private areas. He told her not to tell anyone, or he would be taken away.
The child later told her mother about the abuse. Townsend was arrested. He told police he had done “something bad” in Calvert County.
How the Case Moved Through Court
Townsend was indicted by a Calvert County grand jury in November 2025 on multiple counts related to the sexual abuse of the child. In March 2026, he entered a guilty plea to one count of sex abuse of a minor (continuing course of conduct).
The plea resolved the case without a trial. At sentencing, Judge Chandlee addressed Townsend directly, saying, “Your actions have caused this.”
Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Rebecca N. Cordero handled the prosecution.
What the Sentence Means
Townsend must serve 20 years in prison before he becomes eligible for release. After prison, he will be under supervision for five years and required to register as a Tier 3 sex offender for life under Maryland law.
The victim’s decision to tell her mother led to the investigation and eventual conviction.
