LA PLATA, Md. — Mary Levy, community outreach manager at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, has been named a 2026 Health Care Hero by The Daily Record in the Community Outreach category, officials said.

Levy has built a reputation for connecting Southern Maryland families with vital health resources. She launched the hospital’s Baby Closet program, which provides diapers, car seats, pack-and-plays and other essential infant supplies to hundreds of local families in need.

UM Charles Regional officials praised her dedication and leadership. They said her work continues to make a meaningful impact across the region and expressed pride in celebrating this well-deserved recognition.

The Daily Record also honored several other University of Maryland Medical System professionals and programs.

  • Bonita Lightner was named Nurse of the Year at UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
  • Dr. Bernadette Crowder was named Physician of the Year at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital.
  • Dr. Steven J. Czinn was named Physician of the Year at UM Golisano Children’s Hospital.
  • Dr. Lisa Thomas was named Physician of the Year at UM Upper Chesapeake Health.
  • UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center was recognized in the Community Outreach category.
  • UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center Psychiatry Department was named Mental Health Hero.

The 2026 Health Care Heroes awards will be celebrated during an online event on June 18.
