WALDORF — Firefighters responded to a structure fire at a two-story single-family home in the 5700 block of Yellowtail Court in Waldorf early Friday morning.

The fire was discovered by the home’s occupants, who were awakened by activated smoke detectors. All occupants and animals inside escaped without injury. Four people were displaced by the incident.

Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department served as the primary responding agency. Fifty firefighters responded on one alarm and brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. The area of origin was the interior of the garage. The preliminary cause remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal – Southern region. No arrests have been made.

Smoke alarms were present and activated during the fire. The home did not have a fire alarm or sprinkler system. Estimated damage includes $150,000 to the structure and $10,000 to contents.
