ALTOONA, Pa. — The Chesapeake Baysox dropped a 10-3 decision to the Altoona Curve on Wednesday night.

Left-hander Sebastian Gongora allowed three runs in the first inning and one more in the fourth. Altoona added another run in the sixth. Gongora struck out six over four innings but took the loss to fall to 3-3.

The Baysox managed just two hits through five and two-thirds innings against Curve right-hander Peyton Stumbo. Chesapeake loaded the bases in the sixth on a catcher interference call and two walks but could not score.

In the seventh inning, Johnny Tincher drove in Doug Hodo with a two-out single. Tavian Josenberger followed with a two-run homer to right field, his sixth of the season, cutting the deficit to 5-3.

Chesapeake loaded the bases again in the eighth with two outs. Frederick Bencosme struck out as a pinch hitter to end the threat. Altoona scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth, taking advantage of two walks and three consecutive extra-base hits, including a two-run homer by Omar Alfonzo. Right-hander Mike Walsh earned the save.

Chesapeake fell to 24-34 overall in the Eastern League. The Baysox will try to even the series on Thursday night when left-hander Luis De León faces Curve right-hander Matt Ager at 6 p.m.

Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie serves as the Baysox home field and remains accessible to fans from Southern Maryland communities via major routes including U.S. 301 and Maryland Route 50. The team continues its road trip looking to improve its standing.
