Calvert County Launches Public Input for 2027 Parks Plan

PRINCE FREDERICK — The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation has launched the public engagement phase for the 2027 Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan.

The comprehensive plan, updated every five years, guides decisions on parks, recreation facilities, public access, trails, natural resource stewardship and land preservation. It serves as a roadmap for future investments that support residents’ quality of life while protecting the county’s natural resources.

Residents, businesses and visitors are encouraged to participate in shaping the plan’s priorities. Throughout July, engagement team members will attend community events across the county to answer questions, share information about the planning process and collect feedback.

In-person opportunities include the Farmers Market at CalvertHealth on Tuesday, July 7, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 130 Hospital Road in Prince Frederick. The Farmers Market at Dunkirk District Park takes place Thursday, July 9, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 10750 Southern Maryland Blvd. in Dunkirk.

The Town of North Beach First Friday event is scheduled for Friday, July 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Bay Avenue between 2nd and 7th streets in North Beach. Sharkfest at the Calvert Marine Museum runs Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 14200 Solomons Island Road in Solomons.

Residents unable to attend in-person events can participate online through the LPPRP engagement platform. Options include completing a brief community survey, exploring and commenting on an interactive map, participating in budget and priority-setting activities, and learning more about the planning process and upcoming opportunities.
