ALTOONA, Pa. — The Chesapeake Baysox dropped a 7-1 decision to the Altoona Curve on Sunday night in a rain-shortened game.

Right-hander Ben Vespi started for the Baysox but allowed four runs on five hits in the first inning. Altoona’s Callan Moss finished 4-for-4 with an RBI single in the opening frame. Vespi took the loss to fall to 0-3 after one inning of work.

Left-hander Joseph Dzierwa followed and allowed two runs in the second inning on a run-scoring single and a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Dzierwa settled in over the final five frames, allowing one unearned run and striking out four.

The Baysox scored their only run in the second inning on a solo homer from Anderson De Los Santos. Chesapeake loaded the bases in the third on two singles and a walk but could not score again.

Right-hander Josh Loeschorn started for the Curve and allowed one run over three innings. Right-hander Jaycob Deese earned the win after pitching the final three innings.

The game was delayed by rain after the sixth inning and called official after a 30-minute wait.

Chesapeake fell to 25-38 overall in the Eastern League. The Baysox begin the second half of the season with a homestand at Prince George’s Stadium starting Tuesday against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie remains accessible to fans from Southern Maryland via major routes. The upcoming homestand offers local residents an opportunity to watch the team in person during the second half of the season.
