LA PLATA, Md. — A Waldorf man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing and raping a 13-year-old girl in January.

Elmer Geovanny Marquez-Orellana, 27, entered the plea on June 12, 2026, in Charles County Circuit Court to one count of Sex Abuse of a Minor and one count of Second-Degree Rape. As part of the plea agreement, he will be required to register as a lifetime Tier 3 sex offender under Maryland law. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for August 27, 2026, at 2:30 p.m.

According to the State’s Attorney’s Office, Charles County Sheriff’s Office officers responded to a residence in Waldorf on January 19, 2026, for a reported sexual assault involving a child. The 13-year-old victim and her parents told investigators that Marquez-Orellana had sexually assaulted her earlier that morning.

Investigators determined that Marquez-Orellana had been visiting the victim’s family on January 18, 2026, and stayed overnight at the home. In the early morning hours of January 19, the victim went to the garage to get a bottle of water. Marquez-Orellana, who was already in the garage, grabbed the victim and sexually assaulted her despite her repeated statements that she wanted him to stop. The victim’s mother entered the garage after hearing her daughter say “no” and observed both the victim and Marquez-Orellana unclothed.

In-home surveillance video captured Marquez-Orellana entering the garage and the victim entering approximately three minutes later. A Sexual Assault Nurse Examination was conducted on the victim, and subsequent forensic testing identified DNA consistent with Marquez-Orellana.

Marquez-Orellana now faces sentencing in August. Under Maryland law, a conviction for Second-Degree Rape and Sex Abuse of a Minor requires lifetime registration as a Tier 3 sex offender. Tier 3 is the highest level of registration in the state and carries strict reporting requirements, including in-person verification with law enforcement and public notification.

The case was prosecuted by the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office. No further details about the plea agreement or recommended sentence were released by the office.
