PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert Education Association raised more than $17,000 at its annual golf tournament to support the Calvert County School Foundation’s efforts to fund innovative classroom programs across the county.

The tournament, held May 18 at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course, drew 29 teams. The winning team, representing beverage sponsor Goldstone Contracting, included Jake Hampshire, Zachary Swink, Nick Collins, and Dan Hudson.

The Calvert County School Foundation, founded in 2017, provides grants to Calvert County Public Schools teachers and staff for projects and materials not covered by the school system’s operating budget. Last year, the foundation awarded more than $30,000 in grants supporting literacy initiatives, the arts, professional development, STEAM materials, and classroom technology.

“Our members greatly appreciate the important work of the Foundation, and CEA is proud to support its mission of enhancing educational opportunities for students throughout our community,” said CEA President Jason Oates.

In addition to the main fundraiser, CEA’s sponsored hole raised more than $1,000 toward Thanksgiving turkey donations for the Solomons Mission Center. Last fall, CEA members donated $500 worth of turkeys to the center, which assists residents facing food insecurity. Because of this year’s tournament proceeds, CEA expects to more than double its turkey donations this November.

Major sponsors included Constellation Energy at the Diamond Elite level. Food for participants and volunteers was provided by Outback Steakhouse, Chick-fil-A, and Dunkin’ Donuts of Prince Frederick. Beverages were provided by Spirits & Wine of Calvert. The Calvert Association of Educational Support Staff also sponsored a hole.

Oates said CEA plans to host the tournament again next year.
