LEONARDTOWN, Md. — The St. Mary’s County Museum Division is inviting children ages 7 to 12 to participate in its Junior Historian Program at the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum this summer.
The four-day program combines outdoor exploration with interactive history lessons. Each session runs three hours per day and is limited to 12 participants to ensure a hands-on experience.
Two program tracks are available. The Classic track features favorite activities from previous years and is ideal for first-time participants. The New Adventures track introduces new experiences. Registration is now open for the Classic sessions.
Classic track dates are July 27–30 and August 3–6. The cost is $100 per child for the full four-day program.
Activities include participating in a hands-on archaeological dig, creating and racing boats, and crafting bird boxes and bird feeders. Upon completion, each participant will receive a Junior Historian certificate.
“Because Piney Point has so many interesting things for kids to explore, we thought it would be great to continue offering this fun yet educational multi-day Junior Historian program for children during summer break,” said Karen Stone, Manager of the St. Mary’s County Museum Division. “With such a broad range of topics, participants are sure to find lots of fun things to do while enjoying the outdoors at the lighthouse.”
