Charles County Public Schools has appointed Uriel Bowdré as its new chief financial officer, bringing more than 15 years of private-sector finance leadership to one of Southern Maryland’s largest school systems.

The Charles County Board of Education approved the appointment during its June 22 work session. Bowdré began his new role immediately.

Bowdré most recently served as chief financial officer at Source Support Services in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where he spent a decade in progressively senior finance positions. He advanced from director of finance to senior director of finance and sales operations, then vice president of finance before assuming the top financial role. His earlier career included positions at BLG Logistics, Exide Technologies, HCBR Group Inc., and Jourdan Accounting Agency in Georgia.

Throughout his career, Bowdré has focused on financial reporting, strategic planning, capital allocation, risk management, budgeting, and forecasting. He has worked directly with executive teams and boards to align financial strategy with organizational goals and support data-driven decision-making.

“I am honored to join CCPS and support the important work of serving students, staff and families,” Bowdré said. “I look forward to working with the finance team and school system leaders to ensure CCPS continues making sound, student-centered financial decisions.”

Bowdré holds a Bachelor of Science in international business and accounting and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in management and finance from Strayer University. He is also a Certified Management Accountant.

As CFO, Bowdré will oversee financial accounting, audits, benefits administration, budgeting, food and nutrition services, procurement, payroll, and risk management. These responsibilities are central to ensuring Charles County Public Schools can meet its fiscal obligations while maintaining transparency and supporting educational priorities.

Charles County Public Schools serves a rapidly growing student population in one of Maryland’s fastest-developing counties. The district manages a substantial annual budget funded by local, state, and federal sources. Effective financial leadership is critical for maintaining facilities, supporting instructional programs, managing personnel costs, and navigating ongoing challenges such as enrollment shifts and infrastructure needs.

Bowdré’s private-sector background is expected to bring fresh perspectives on process improvement, capital planning, and resource allocation to the public education setting. School systems across Maryland have increasingly sought leaders with corporate finance experience to strengthen fiscal oversight and long-term planning.

The appointment comes at a time when school districts statewide continue to focus on responsible budgeting and maximizing resources for students. Bowdré’s experience presenting financial information to boards and guiding strategic use of funds aligns with those priorities.

Charles County Public Schools has emphasized transparency and sound financial practices in recent years. The new CFO will work closely with Superintendent Maria Navarro and the Board of Education to maintain fiscal stability while advancing the district’s mission.

Bowdré’s selection reflects the district’s interest in strengthening its financial leadership team with proven expertise in both operational finance and strategic planning.
