The Color & Light Society of Southern Maryland is bringing original artwork, live demonstrations and hands-on community projects to The Fenwick Inn in downtown Leonardtown for a two-day art show on Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11.

The free public event, open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, will showcase a wide variety of works by artists from Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties. Attendees can browse and purchase pieces in mediums including watercolor, acrylic, oil, pottery, glasswork, woodworking, mixed media and photography. The historic setting of The Fenwick Inn, located at 41685 Fenwick Street, provides an elegant backdrop for the celebration of local creativity.

New this year are free community art projects that allow visitors of all ages to participate directly in the creative process. Live artist demonstrations throughout the weekend will give guests a behind-the-scenes look at how the works are created. Drinks will be available for purchase, and a door prize drawing adds to the event’s appeal.

The Color & Light Society describes itself as a “Gallery Without Walls,” a nonprofit collective dedicated to bringing art into the community through exhibits, demonstrations, public events and programs. Its members represent a broad range of styles and subjects, often drawing inspiration from the Chesapeake Bay region and the unique character of Southern Maryland.

For residents of St. Mary’s County and the surrounding area, the show offers an accessible way to engage with local artists and discover new work. Leonardtown’s Arts & Entertainment District has become a hub for such events, helping to support cultural tourism and creative expression in the region. The Fenwick Inn’s historic charm, with its renovated spaces and central location, makes it an ideal venue for bringing together artists and the public.

The event aligns with growing interest in community-based art initiatives across Southern Maryland. Such gatherings provide opportunities for collectors, art enthusiasts and families to connect while supporting local talent. Visitors can meet the artists, learn about their techniques and take home original pieces that reflect the area’s landscapes, history and culture.

The Color & Light Society’s programming extends beyond this weekend show. The group organizes exhibits and events throughout the year, working to make art more visible and accessible. Its focus on both professional artists and community participation helps foster a vibrant creative scene in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the full experience, including the chance to explore the inn and surrounding area. The free admission and family-friendly activities make it suitable for a wide range of visitors, from serious collectors to those simply looking for an inspiring afternoon.

The July 10-11 art show at The Fenwick Inn is part of the society’s ongoing commitment to celebrating Southern Maryland’s artistic talent.
