The Naval Support Facility Dahlgren has released its operations schedule for the Potomac River Test Range and Explosive Experimental Area for the period from June 27 through July 3, 2026. The facilities are used for munitions testing and should be avoided during active operations.
No testing is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, or Sunday, June 28. The Navy encourages the public to enjoy the weekend safely.
Testing operations will resume Monday, June 29, and continue Tuesday, June 30, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. On Tuesday, potential loud noise is expected on station in the southern and eastern areas of NSF Dahlgren as well as down range and in surrounding communities. River restrictions will be in effect approximately 15,000 yards down range from NSF Dahlgren below the yellow “M” buoy in Maryland and to the yellow “L” buoy in Virginia.

No noise or river restrictions are anticipated for Wednesday, July 1, or Thursday, July 2. No testing is scheduled for Friday, July 3.
Daily updates on range operations are available through the Potomac River Test Range hotline at 877-845-5656. Noise questions or comments can be directed to NSF Dahlgren at 540-653-8153. Additional schedule information is also posted on the official NSWCDD Facebook page.
The Potomac River Test Range plays a critical role in supporting national defense through munitions testing. Operations can generate noise and temporary restrictions on the river that affect boaters and shoreline residents in St. Mary’s County and surrounding areas.
St. Mary’s County residents near the Potomac River are advised to monitor the schedule, particularly on Tuesday, June 30, when restrictions and potential loud noise are expected. Boaters should avoid the restricted areas during active testing to ensure safety.

The Explosive Experimental Area at Pumpkin Neck is also used for testing activities. The Navy works to minimize impacts on the community while fulfilling its mission requirements. The range hotline and public affairs office serve as primary points of contact for updates and feedback.
For more information on the NSWCDD range schedule, contact the Public Affairs Office at 540-653-8152.
