Community members of all ages are invited to enjoy educational activities at the St. Clement’s Island Museum site and Piney Point Lighthouse Museum on the second Saturday of each month throughout the year.

These activities encourage visitors to explore nature and the outdoors through curiosity and play. Modeled loosely after “Forest School” learning styles popular in Denmark and Sweden, the series encourages the discovery of nature through hands-on, tactile experiences with no right or wrong way to play. Participants of all ages are welcome — adults need opportunities to connect with nature in relaxing, simple ways just as much as children do.

Themed activities will be held on the following dates and times. Participation is included with regular museum admission.

At St. Clement’s Island Museum in Coltons Point on August 8, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the activity is Paint Scenery Using Water from the Potomac River.

At Piney Point Lighthouse Museum in Piney Point, the schedule includes July 11, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for Helping Backyard Birds – Learn About Local Birds and Build a Feeder. On October 10, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the activity is Batty for Bats – Decorate Your Own Bat Box. On November 14, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the activity is Deck the Halls – A DIY Ornament Workshop.

Visitors are encouraged to call the museum in advance to confirm event details and receive any weather-related updates.
