St. Mary’s College of Maryland concluded one of the most successful years in the history of Seahawk Athletics. The program captured a school-record 13 conference championships while demonstrating excellence in the classroom, leadership in student well-being and an unwavering commitment to the student-athlete experience.
“This has been a remarkable year for our student-athletes, coaches, and the entire College community,” said Donny Bryan ’73, interim vice president for athletics. “These accomplishments reflect not only competitive excellence, but the character, discipline, and academic commitment that define St. Mary’s College.”
The year’s achievements include every varsity team qualifying for postseason competition for the second consecutive year. St. Mary’s remains on track to capture its fourth consecutive United East Presidents’ Cup. The program earned nine conference Coach of the Year honors, eight Rookie of the Year awards and fifteen conference Player of the Year honors.

The success extended well beyond competition. Varsity student-athletes maintained strong academic performance, with overall men’s and women’s grade point averages above 3.0. Ninety-one student-athletes were inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national honor society recognizing junior and senior student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. Ninety Seahawks earned United East Fall All-Academic honors.
The Department of Athletics and Recreation continued its commitment to student well-being through its sixth consecutive Mental Health Awareness Week, organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The initiative brought alumni and professionals together with the campus community to promote conversations around supporting student mental health.
“As we celebrate these accomplishments, we are equally proud of the academic achievements, leadership, and service demonstrated by our student-athletes,” said President Rhonda Phillips. “Athletics is an important part of the St. Mary’s experience, and this year reflects what is possible when talented students are supported by exceptional coaches, faculty, and staff.”
Women’s cross country captured its fifth consecutive conference championship. Volleyball won the first conference championship in program history. Women’s basketball earned its first conference title since 1999 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Women’s tennis, women’s lacrosse, men’s lacrosse, swimming, track and field, sailing, field hockey and several other programs added conference championships and national postseason appearances.
The breadth of success reflects the college’s commitment to developing students who excel both on the field of play and in the classroom. St. Mary’s College of Maryland, located in St. Mary’s City, continues to build a strong athletic tradition while maintaining high academic standards.
